The Coconino County African American Advisory Council and the Southside Community Association present the annual Juneteenth celebration from 11a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017.

The celebration with special entertainment will be held at the Murdoch Community Center at 203 W. Brannen in Flagstaff. The Director of the Governor’s Office of Equal Opportunity, Barry Wong, will present a proclamation for Juneteenth of behalf of Governor Ducey.

The purpose of Juneteenth is to commemorate the “late” communication of the 1863 signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed all enslaved persons inside of Confederate states (“all states on the rebellion”), some of who did not find out until June of 1865.
