Coconino County Zoning Ordinance
Zoning Ordinance

The Coconino County Board of Supervisors first adopted the Zoning Ordinance in which sets forth land use classifications, divides the county into land use zones as delineated on the official zoning maps and sets regulations for the promotion of the health, safety, morals, convenience and welfare of the citizens of Coconino County. These zones were adopted for the purpose of implementing the goals and policies of the Comprehensive Plan, to protect the public health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Coconino County, to safeguard and enhance the appearance and quality of development of the county, and to provide for the social, physical and economic advantages resulting from comprehensive and orderly planned use of land resources.

The current Zoning Code was adopted by the County Board of Supervisors in 1981. Many amendments have been added to the Zoning Code in the years since. Due to new legislation about timeframes for the issuance of permits and licenses a number of changes are required to be made to our current Ordinance. In addition a number of "housekeeping" changes are proposed. These include addressing statutory exemptions, updating terminologies and definitions, adding uses that were not previously listed and deleting uses that are no longer relevant. The intention of these changes is not to rewrite the entire ordinance, but to bring greater clarity to Zoning Code. All items in bold represent new test and all text with strikeouts are proposed to be deleted. Questions or concerns about proposed changes should be directed to the Coconino County Community Development Department at 928-679-8850 or Contact Us Form.
